Thanksgiving 2011

I was REALLY hoping to get this posted in November, but *sigh* life didn't cooperate.

No matter. I still want to document what a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend we had this year. It started on Wednesday evening, when our friends, the Cranneys, pulled into town. We knew them when we were living in Turkey. (In fact, Dean Cranney helped deliver Adana. Yep, we're forever bonded.) They recently moved to Spokane - just across the state from us - so YEAH!

Thursday (Thanksgiving) morning, we woke up bright & early to run in our local Turkey Trot 5K. Camille & I smoked Dean & Nathan. :) Micah ran the race too (smoking us all!), then the boys played in their annual soccer game with some friends. When we finally got all showered & packed up, we drove out to our lake house.

Thanksgiving dinner was a pot of Turkish lentil soup & a big "Cranney" salad, chock full of yummy olives, artichoke hearts & roasted peppers. Mmmmm . . .

Friday morning, we caught the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria, BC. It was a BEAUTIFUL day!

The harbor in Victoria is so amazing.

Our first stop was the Empress hotel. The girls loved the "dinosaur trees" out front.

We enjoyed the Festival of Trees. This was one of Adana's (many) favorites.

Adana insisted on having her picture taken with every quirky thing she found. I'll spare you all the pictures . . . Suffice it to say, Canada has a lot of random moose decor.

We walked up to China Town. Eh. I have yet to visit a truly impressive China Town. The red dragon was cool, though.

We stopped for lunch at a great Pho (Vietnamese) restaurant. Super yum!

Torah especially liked the noodles in creamy coconut sauce.

All in all, it was a fantastic weekend with some dear friends. We were just missing Rachel, their oldest daughter who is in her first year at BYU. Thanks, Cranneys, for sharing our fun, unconventional Thanksgiving with us!

Unconventional, but looked like a great weekend none the less! Love that hotel.

and I would have made you eat pie.

Russells and Cranneys are never conventional, that's what so great about you guys.

Sounds like a great time. You should visit San Francisco for a great Chinatown. We loved it.
