We have a NUMBER of projects going on at our house right now - simultaneously. (Can you say "Budget Drain?" How 'bout "Overtapped, Stressed-Out Husband?") One of them was completed today. We needed to put a shed in our side yard (so that we have the room necessary in our garage to complete project #2, which I will be reporting on eventually).

Here is the before shot. The shed is going in the dogrun on the side of our house. The boys spent a couple days getting it ready - moving the wood pile down to the far end & clearing out debris. Today, Nathan & Jared built the wood platform for the shed to sit on. Then the "real work" began . . .

Now, in ages past, the building of a shed/barn/house was a community effort. And we just so happen to live in such a community. So it was a pleasant and welcomed surprise when Nathan's friend, Brad, and his son, Nate, stopped by to assist in the shed raising. Considering that today is (1) SATURDAY and (2) the HOTTEST day this summer (over 90 degrees), it was a sign of true friendship.

Of course in the olden days, sheds were a much different undertaking than they are today. The men first needed to clear the land, take the lumber to the mill to get planks, and trade a few pigs in for the necessary nails, etc. Then a horde of men would convene to measure, saw, and piece the shed together. I'm pretty sure that a shed our size took the better part of a day to raise.
Our shed took about 2 hours. It was a plastic, preformed kit from Costco.

Ta-Da!! It comes complete with a plastic floor, a side window (on the other side) and even a "sun roof" to allow plenty of natural light in. Ahhhh, the blessings of living in the 21st century.
