Russell Boys Got Talent

Last Wednesday was the Youth Talent Show at church. I am always so impressed with the level of talent that kids have these days. The program with filled with performances in piano, violin, flute, dancing, artwork . . .

And then there was the Russell boys' talent.

Micah decided to show off his talent for changing Torah's diaper. Now, truth be told, he actually is really good at it and if pressed, I'd have to admit that his skills at changing a diaper do come in more handy than his piano playing.

Jared & I held up a blanket to provide Torah some modesty. She was very cooperative as Micah talked the audience through the delicate process of changing a poopy diaper. (Thankfully, it wasn't actually poopy, but he pretended that it was for dramatic effect. And because of what came next.)

When the diaper was changed & tossed into the garbage can, Micah announced that Jared also had a special talent related to diaper changing . . . Jared can tell what Torah has been eating just by looking at her poop.

Jared reached into the garbage can and pulled out the diaper (actually, a different one that had been stashed there). He opened it up, revealing the brown, gloopy mess inside. Then he proceeded to analyze the contents. "Hmmm," he deliberated. "It sort of looks like a mixture of squash . . . maybe some carrots . . . and do I detect some Gerber rice cereal? Well, there's only one way to be sure."

He dipped his finger into the brown goo and gave it a lingering lick.

"Yep! Definitely rice cereal."

The audience gagged. Then they laughed & clapped. But mostly, they were still gagging. The boys never did reveal the trick (a melted Snickers bar in the diaper). And I'm pretty sure that there are still quite a few people out there who are convinced that Jared eats poop.
