Raising Adana

Adana with her kindergarten teacher, Mrs. McDonald

Last day of school.
Yes, she wore a full-length satin & velvet dress to school.
No, I do not have much input into her wardrobe.

Every year, I set up a "Summer Program" for the kids.  It's just a way to help motivate them to do their chores, keep their rooms clean, and generally help around the house.  This summer, they are working to earn beads (which can be traded for cash at the end of the summer).

One of the ways to earn a bead is by reading 1/2 hour.  Silly me, I thought that "Read for 1/2 hour" was fairly self-explanatory.  Leave it to Adana to find a loop hole.

Adana:  Mom, do I have to read out loud or can I read in my mind?
Me:  Sure, you can read in your mind.
. . . Ten quiet minutes pass.  She still doesn't have a book.
Me:  Aren't you going to read?
Adana:  I am reading.  You said I could read in my mind.  So I'm imagining a book and reading it.

Honey, you are so raising yourself with Adana. Face it she will always be one step ahead of you. I think it is wonderful. You can't think much faster than my girl Adana. I love her so much.
