Scenes From An Orphan Train

Emma was in a play last week at Bainbridge Performing Arts.  She had spent the past two months in a theater class, and it ended with this great show.  They performed two nights to a sold-out crowd.  And she was fabulous!

The play was titled Scenes From An Orphan Train.  It was a dramatic narrative, set in the 20s, about orphans who were "rescued" from the streets of New York and sent by train to find a better life.

At each stop, the children were lined up and a select few were chosen for adoption.  The orphans each told about their experiences - some happy, and others not so pleasant.
Emma's character was named Ellie.  She was a spit-fire little pickpocket who was adopted by a nice man and taken home for his very proper wife to raise.  At first the wife was hesitant, due to Ellie's sassy, crass nature.
But Ellie wanted so desperately to be adopted, and soon the wife agreed to teach this sweet child how to be a proper lady.  Happy ending for Ellie.
Emma had a great time working with some fun new friends.  I really hope she wants to try more plays in the future.  They are a lot of hard work, but I love watching her shine up on stage!

A special Thank You to Kim Scott-Olson (one of the mom's from the play) for providing the fabulous pictures!  I'm so glad when there are people who actually take good pictures at my kids' activities, since I'm a horrible photographer, and besides, I never even remember to bring my camera.

Hooray for Emma. Love the hip action in the one picture. I hope she continues to perform. I want to be in the audience!
