Each Saturday morning, he managed to "coach" nine little 5-year old girls through a 30 minute soccer game. That included gently reminding them to stop hugging and kick the ball, trying to figure out why they were randomly crying, convincing them that they had to finish the game before they got snacks, and faking enthusiasm over the slightest kick or attempt at making a goal. Since their uniforms were brown, the girls chose Chocolate Ponies as their team name. All the parents LOVED Coach Nathan! He really did a fabulous job!

I like "Chocolate Ponies"! When Aidan was five, his team had blue uniforms; one of the little guys suggested "Blue Giraffes" as the team name, which I really thought would be an awesome name. The coach said "There's no such thing as blue giraffes!" So, they were the sharks instead (yawn).
Now the soccer players are eight and nine years old, and I swear, before every game at least one boy has to run off into the woods for a minute before play starts. I wonder how much longer that lasts? :-)
