Hotel glasses

This is just YUCK! This video shows how hotels - nice ones, even - "clean" the glasses that you find in your room.

Answer: THEY DON'T! The maid sprays some sort of disinfectant on them, gives 'em a swish, and they are set out for the next guests. BLECH!

I've never been much of a germ-a-phobe. I mean, I've eaten street tacos in Mexico, drank from the communal cups in hole-in-the-wall Turkish cafes, swam in the Puget Sound . . .

The difference is that those times, I EXPECTED germs. I psyched my body up to deal with whatever I was about to consume, and not once did it gross me out or make me sick.

But when I'm paying $200/night to stay in a swanky hotel, the very least I expect is to be able to have a clean glass of water.

I just try not to think about the matresses and pillows. Shudder.

That is disgusting!!! I will NEVER drink out of a hotel glass again!! Jessica told me, after the first week of school, that she was never going to buy a school lunch at KES. when I asked her why, she said because she had helped out in the kitchen and said that they didn't clean their utensils, they just wiped them off and put them in the container again for kids to use. I thought surely she must be mistaken, at some point the utensils must go through a dishwasher. Otherwise, the school could get in trouble for that, right?? Well, now I'm more inclined to believe her. If an expensive hotel does that, why not a government paid for school?? Blech!! Thank goodness NO ONE in my family buys lunches at school. I guess it's not just money we're saving!

Apparently, some people take collapsible cups, etc. -- camping gear, basically -- when they stay in hotels. We tend to stay at Residence Inns (dishwasher in the room!), so the glassware is less of an issue. The bedding and the carpets are another story. There is no way of knowing when the comforters were washed or the carpets cleaned. :-P If you think about it for too long, you begin to understand why "Mr. Monk" takes his own bedding when he travels....

That is sick! I think hotels are gross, even the nice ones, but sometimes they are a necessity. I appreciate the cheap hotels that give you plastic wrapped cups more and more!
