AGH! I'm so disappointed. There are only 2 more hours remaining in March 4th, and I've only just discovered that it is National Grammar Day. For years, I have had a closet grammar obsession. Whenever I have a free moment, I like to go to the library and surround myself with a huge pile of grammar books. I subscribe to various grammar-focused blogs and podcasts. It's sick, really. But reading about the rules regarding when and when not to use a comma excites me. And don't get me started on the semi-colon!
So, until next year (when I am already planning a National Grammar Day extravaganza that will rock this town!), have a very happy National Grammar Day!
Do you think Hallmark publishes cards for this? Well, they should.

Grammar Day?? You is weird.
So Wendy, does that mean that you don't want an invitation to my Grammarpalooza next year?
Well, Mom, after years of schooling, rules of grammar was imbedded in my brain, which spews them out automatically, needing no refreshers.
(that was harder than it looks!)
WOW! Grammar day? Really?? March 4 is grammar day to you? It hurts Brooke! It really hurts!
Gee, I hope you will continue reading my blog; with all the comma splices, and misplaced semicolons! =)
In belated celebration of Grammar Day, I offer for your benefit my two "favorite" quotes from my stay/detention in Indiana. Consider yourself warned.
1) "I ain't never done did that!"
and
2) "That truck ain't even went by here yet!"
A virtual hot chocolate -- and my awe -- are yours if you can diagram the above "sentences," both of which are entered exactly as they were uttered.
I, too, am a sucker for a properly placed semi-colon. Correctly comma-ed sentences are also a real treat. I just can't help myself. In fact, my favorite part about 9th grade English was that our teacher would have us diagram sentences--pages and pages of them. Ahh, the memories. . . I must admit that I was mighty pleased to read that my birthday, March 4th, is also National Grammar Day. Does it get any better than that? :) I've had your neices and nephew (Tanner) at my houe for a few days and I'm so sad that we already have to send them back your way. They resemble Jared and Emma so much.
Have a lovely, sunny (fingers crossed) day in Seattle.
Love,
Amie
Why didn't I know about National Grammar Day?! I didn't know there were other grammar Nazis out there like me. Have I ever told you of my one time dream of being a publisher (along with everything else I have ever wanted to do like the short-lived FBI agent dream)? Well anyways . . . it bugs me too when people misuse commas and semicolons. Eventually, when I don't have classes to worry about I will sit down and read Eats, Shoots & Leaves. Another funny story--some math majors tried to argue grammar rules with me and my other English friends. Who do they think they are? They don't even get a capital letter for their subject!
