UPDATE: Barge house

I just saw this story on a local news site. Not very interesting to those of you who don't live around here. But I did find the financial end of the story pretty amazing.

I wonder how much a $1.00 sale price on a 3400-square foot home skewed the market stats last year. (Of course, I'm sure it was more than offset by the multiple multi-million dollar homes that also sold on the island last year.)

By the way - third picture down, the one with all the people standing there watching the barge come in - yep, that's me. Second butt from the left. I'm holding Adana (just in case you click on the picture and wonder what those dangly things are at my side.)

Well, that's pretty impressive. Answers my question, too, about how much money you save. $250,001 isn't bad for a 3400sf house on Bainbridge! I guess they had to buy the land to put it on, though, so maybe they didn't save all that much $$.

When I worked for the Bainbridge Review, I did a story about a house formerly owned by musician Kenny G being barged from Lake Washington, through the locks, into the Sound and to the South Beach area. It's a big Tudor that looks like it belongs with the big Lynwood Center building. This was 1998 or thereabouts. You can still drive down there — go to the end of Fort Ward Road (down the hill to the beach) and take a right at the fish farm.

Jim - coincidentally, I think I've actually been inside that house. It's owned by some people in my church. It's a small island. :-)
