UPDATES

MOUSE: Well, for those of you who wondered what was going to keep the little mouse from just coming back in the house after we mercifully released him in the wild . . . the answer is "Apparantly nothing."

Little mouse was back, alive and well, just a few days later. But this time he'd learned a valuable lesson and was much sneakier, only emerging to raid the pantry at night. I got very annoyed with having to clean up mouse poop every morning. Nathan got a bit more aggressive with the traps and this morning - voila! - we had a little mouse stuck tight.

I really have nothing against mice. I think they're pretty cute, actually. But there's a limit to how much tiny black poop pellets I can take. So farewell, little mouse. I hope you enjoy that great Pantry in the Sky.

POTTY TRAINING: I know, I promised no more posts on this subject. But I just thought, given these sketchy economic times, that I would reitterate my suggestion that you go out and buy stock in Pampers. Not only does Adana refuse to even consider any suggestion of using a potty; she also adamantly refuses to live with wet diapers. So she is demanding that I change her nearly hourly.

Now, some of you might think, "Hey, that's great! That's one of the signs that she's ready to potty train." That may very well be true - for a normal toddler. But this is not a normal toddler that we're talking about. Adana has never done a normal thing in her life. She shuns normal the way other toddlers shun cooked spinach (which she loves, by the way).

No, this is just one more opportunity for her to prove to me, her siblings & the world that her will is stronger than anyone else's. Which it is.

MOLES: On a positive note, Nathan appears to have won the battle of the moles. I haven't seen a new mound (knock on wood) in a few days. I'm not exactly sure what he did out there - midnight seances, contraband substances, a pact with the devil - but whatever it was seems to have worked.

I feel your pain on the potty training. Kids have ultimate control over two things in their lives: what goes in and what/when it goes out! My Hannah is very much like Adana in that you cannot MAKE her do something. I knew that she was never going to potty train on my watch, so I waited until she was doing it herself - literally. She was 3 years and 3 months (and had started preschool). I think the preschool part helped a lot because she wanted to go to the potty like her friends.

Anyway, I wish I had some magic for a strong willed child, but I don't. :) Good luck!!

I knew that mouse would be back. I was surprised it took a couple of days. See what happens when you get all "rodent" lovin? They come back to bite you in the butt. Guess that is the Idahoan talkin in me. We kill creatures like that. :)

We started to potty train abagayle last week. It is going well, but this is our fourth try at it. Abagayle has the stong will too, so we just had to wait till she was ready :) Good Luck
