First beach visit of 2010

Today was a beautiful, high-60's Sunday afternoon. We all woke up from our naps eager to get out and enjoy this blissful day. So we decided to head to the beach! I LOVE living on an island.

The beach is such a unique experience. Only at the beach can you enjoy loooong minutes of just sitting and running your fingers through the sand, picking out tiny white stones, or

burying your feet over and over in the sand.

When we go to a PARK, the kids need to PLAY. They need an ACTIVITY. They are constantly YELLING "Look at me! Push me! Catch me!"

But at the beach, they slow down; they quiet down. They stroll leisurely, find unique rocks or crab claws, or

just lay in the sand and dig holes in the sand, filling them with treasures for the sand faeries to enjoy.

Micah spent hours roaming the beach, looking for just the right logs for his fort. He dragged them from all over and meticulously stacked them into this great beach shelter.

One more thing that I love about the beach is how it brings my kids together, regardless of their age differences. Adana worked side by side with Jared, gathering small pieces of pure white shell, so that he could
find his inner artist and create this beautiful nest of white shells (with a piece of green sea glass in the center).

The only thing missing on this lovely Sunday afternoon was Baba. He's still up in Alaska, doing humanitarian work in a remote native village. We missed him, but I'm sure we'll have LOTS more beach days for him to join in. After all, we LOVE living on an island!

I love the thought of being able to go to the beach anytime. You are lucky to live on an island. I am far from water and you guys.

Sorry we couldn't join you! But it sounds like you had a wonderful time with just your family (minus baba). I'm so happy the air is getting warmer and the days longer.
