Adana & I spent this morning running all sorts of errands off-island. After a couple hours of dragging her from store to store, I needed to reward her for her good behavior & patience. So we stopped for lunch at McD's.
As I was about to order my usual - a McChicken sandwich, small fry & medium soda - I noticed something shocking! McD's has made ALL of the prices on their sodas $1.00. Regardless of size - small, medium or large - they all cost a buck! (Is this a new thing, or am I just the last person on the planet to know about it?)
Suddenly, I was faced with a very perplexing dilema. But first, let me explain that I'm not really much of a soda drinker. I don't like carbonation, I don't like caffeine, and I don't like artificial sweeteners. So I rarely drink the stuff - except when I'm eating french fries.
The other factor that must be explained is that I'm somewhat obsessively cheap. I'm always looking for a good deal; I virtually never buy anything that isn't on sale; I LOVE analyzing the unit prices on items and going with the best deal per ounce/pound/dozen... So despite the fact that I don't really love soda, I've always ordered the Medium (and sometimes even the Large) at McD's because it has the best "per ounce" value.

Well today, as I was looking at the huge enameled menu looming above me and seeing
Soda $1.00 / $1.00 / $1.00
I suddenly felt this empowering rush of freedom. It didn't matter which size I ordered - it all cost the same! I could get what I really wanted - a Small - and it would cost the same as a Medium!
Granted, the cost per ounce value on that Small is a considerably worse deal than it was before, when the prices only varied by about 20 cents or so. But that didn't matter at the time. All I cared about was that I was suddenly FREE to order just a Small.
Don't try to understand me. Don't point out how utterly & completely illogical this all is. Just know that as I sat there, munching on my fries and sipping my Small soda, I was finally, totally, at peace.

I am not a big soda drinker, either. I love it, but know better. Too bad it doesn't keep me from being naughty in other food areas.

if you eat inside the McD's
then you can get as many refills as you want so tecnically the small is the best deal.

They don't have that special here in Ridgecrest, just everywhere else. Let me restate that...only XL drinks are $1.00 and that sale ends next month. Right before summer hits!! The great thing is unlimited refills. Unfortunately, I am addicted. I really try not to drink the evil stuff, but I fail miserably. I wish I could say it was my only vice.
Did you see their new "mini-meals"? You can get a small fry, small coke, with a McChicken, Mc Snack Wrap or Double Cheeseburger for $2.99. The even funnier part is they are all on the dollar menu, so really you only save a penny! ;)
Tomorrow for lunch I am making our own McChickens, just bought the chicken patties, lettuce, and whole wheat buns. Jacob loves them, I call them Chicken Burgers.
We love, well, the kids and I love McDee's. We eat lunch there on Dollar Nugget days at least twice a month. Of course we never get the dollar nuggets and save myself the money because the boys want their happy meal toys.
The husband has to report that Adana then proceeded to PUKE all over the car and has not stopped puking. She went to bed puking. If she is still puking in the morning, we will start to be worried. Meanwhile... husband and father is still stuck up in Alaska. Sorry vaimo! Did Adana have a large orange Hi-C?
Love the soda. Love the deal. But a cup of water is still the best deal around. That's what I tell my kids.
