Tonight for YM/YW (weekly activities for all the teenagers at church), the plan was to go roller skating in Bremerton. Jared, Micah & their friend, Noah, decided to go "in character." They were laughing so hard while they were getting ready. They said they were dressing like "Tools." Huh??
Thank goodness for the Urban Dictionary. Here's what I think they were going for:
A person, typically male, who says or does things that cause you to give them a 'what-are-you-even-doing-here' look. The 'what-are-you-even-doing-here' look is classified by a glare in the tool's direction and is usually accompanied by muttering of how big of a tool they are. The tool is usually someone who is unwelcome but no one has the balls to tell them to get lost. The tool is always making comments that are out-of-place, out-of-line or just plain stupid. The tool is always trying too hard to fit in, and because of this, never will. However, the tool is useful because you can use them for things; money, rides, etc.
I think I dented their egos when I mentioned that they looked pretty much like how they usually dress. Dumb mom. Clearly I don't know the finer points of teenage fashion. Or teenage dissing on fashion. I'm still stuck in the good 'ol days when we dressed up like Dweebs or Goobers, back when a Geek wasn't a rich Wall Street tycoon and a Tool was, well, something used in construction.
Life with teenagers is so complicated.

Haven't I seen them wear those same outfits at school?
P.S. When you say Urban Dictionary, do you mean wikipedia by Brooke?! :)
Maybe it's the socks, pulled all the way up that make the outfit. That hat is a little strange to me. But what do I know? My oldest children are only 11 and 9-year-old boys!
