Camping at Deception Pass

While Micah was on his canoe trip this summer, the other kids & I decided to go camping also.  We hooked up with our friends, the Van Akens, and decided to try a new camping spot.
We picked Deception Pass on Whidbey Island.
It was a bit of a trek getting there, but boy, was it gorgeous!
This was Torah's first camping trip.  She did alright, but I never would have made it without Jared's help!  What an amazing big brother and son.
Our 2nd day there, we spent most of the morning hiking up steep trails.  Even with his swollen sprained ankle, he insisted on pushing the stroller most of the way.

This was just off the bridge, looking down on the swirling pass below.
We hiked across Deception Pass bridge.  It made me dizzy looking down!

Jared always seemed to have at least one of his sisters by his side.

Or on his shoulder.  :)
After our hike, we sat on the beach and the kids played in the sand.
They took turns making "Art Creations" in the sand and judging each other.  This was Emma's winner (when Adana was the judge):  the top one was "Baba on his motorcycle."  The bottom was "Orca whale."  She clearly knew how to appeal to the judge!
Sadly, our camping trip came to an abrupt end.  As we were making dinner on the 2nd night, we heard thunder.  Soon the rain started.  Within minutes, we had broken camp, shoved everything in our cars, and were rushing for the ferry.  We are definitely fair weather campers!

Nothing against Emmas rock creations, but Hey don't you think that Baba and the Orca look a bit a like?

Fair weather camper indeed!! I've been camping in the rain too many times for comfort. I'd like to be fair weathered.

Love Jared and Torah pictures.
