Comments question

I am seeking advice/opinions from all you fabulous bloggers and blog readers. My questions relate to how you deal with Comments on your blog.
  1. As a blog reader, do you like it when people respond to you when you post a comment on their blog? More importantly, do you expect a response?

  2. If so, what is your preferred method of response? A seperate email? A post on your own blog? A response in the comments section of their blog?

  3. As a blogger, how do you typically deal with comments in your Comment section that you want to respond to?

I, of course, LOVE getting comments on my blog (it's Nathan's favorite part of my blog - he reads the comments more avidly than what I actually post.) But I've never come up with a tried-n-true method of responding.

I also enjoy it when a fellow blogger responds to something that I've left in their Comments, but the truth is that I don't always check back to see if they've responded. I mean, honestly, I can barely keep up with reading all the blogs that I enjoy; I rarely have time to also go back and check all the comments that I've left.

I've tried subscribing to a post's Comments feed, so that I could receive by email any further comments that were left. But that drove me crazy. I would get email after email from random people that I'd never heard of, commenting on a blog post that I had pretty much forgotten about.

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts with me. No promises, though, on receiving a response. :-)

Good question. I've often wondered the same thing. I don't expect a response to comments I leave on other's blogs, but if I want one I will email the blogger. I've responded to some comments on my blog by leaving another comment, but I don't assume that the original commenter is going to read it. I guess it's just to further explain or embellish their comment for future commenters. So I guess I would say if someone wanted a response from me regarding a comment they posted on my blog, I would prefer them to email me directly, and I would email the blogger if I wanted them to respond to my comment on their blog. Whew! I think that's what I mean!

When I want a response from a blogger I email them but mostly I just comment so they know I read and enjoyed the blog. I wasn't sure how to respond to your friends in Kennewick who also know some Blodgett's and left a comment after my comment on your blog about your nature walk. They are likely Dan's Uncle Steve and Aunt Ginger, but I wasn't sure if I should leave that as another comment or email you. I still don't know and that's why I'm commenting here.

I do both sometimes. Many don't check back on comments, so emails can be nice. I have no good answer on this. There's a widget that posts to both, the comments and sends an email to that person. It is fun to have a lively comments section, tho, and it shows readers you are involved with them. So....???? Not helpful, eh?

Just kidding. I like when people respond to comments on the same page. That way if you are a late commenter you can read the comment and response to it too. Fun for me.

I love comments! I don't expect them from everyone every single post of course and I don't comment on every post I read. If I wanna answer someone who commented on my post I usually do it in my comments, too. That way if they were looking for a response, they can check it there. I find that if someone responds to a comment I made on their blog by commenting on one of my posts, I have a hard time remember what I said. (just my brain maybe?)
Anyway...too confusing to even understand and I typed it! Sorry!!

1. I love it when a blogger has time to respond to a comment I've left, but I don't expect it.

2. I think a response in the same comments section is the easiest and most elegant solution to carrying on a conversation spawned by the OP.

3. And that's how I do it on my blog! But I have to say thanks for emailing me with the Turkish soup recipe! An unexpected bit of delight!

Unless I leave a question in my comment I don't ever expect a response, and I do the same with my comments. I just like reading them it somewhow makes blogging worth it.

I no longer have a counter on my blog, I am considering a live traffic feed b/c I know I have people who read my blog and never leave a comment...I guess my life is just ordinary!

I, being the selfish creature that I am, want the best of both worlds. I want to banter on my blog comments back and forth, so others can see it and I can go back and read it also later since I have been diagnosed with CRS (Can't remember Sh**), and I also would like a response via email in case I don't go back and check your blog page after you commented on a something whitty or funny that I said.

There ya go...I want it all. :)

I like to see comments left on my blog (that, along with Sitemeter, tells me if anyone is actually out there). I do respond to some comments left on my blog, as time and brain cells allow. I do not expect other blog readers to respond to comments *I* leave *here*. I do expect you, Brooke, to respond to each of my comments; I don't dole out all of this wit and wisdom to just anyone, you know!

Okay, I am kidding about the last part. :-D

:waves: Hi, Nathan!
