I am a nail biter. I have bitten my nails all my life. I think it may be a genetic thing. My father bites his nails, and probably his father before him. (Heck, his father was from Arkansas; he probably bit his toenails.) :-P
But no more. Never again. I am here to share with you the secret to my sudden, cold-turkey nail biting cessation:
Pinworms.
Up until about a month ago, I lived blissfully ignorant of the existance of these nasty creatures. I never even considered the possibility of slimy, creepy worms living in unsuspecting intestinal tracts and emerging only at night to lay their eggs around some poor soul's anus.
Then a friend posted on her blog about how her son had them.
And how a parent goes about discovering if, in fact, your child has them. (Read this funny story to learn more.)
And how a person gets them. Which is the clincher . . . you get them by eating them.
Why, you are probably asking, would anyone EAT pinworms?! Well, most people don't do it on purpose. Rather, they are hiding - lurking - Underneath Your Fingernails.
ACK!
So, my friends, consider yourselves informed and warned. Now go forth and spread the word. All it took for my kids was telling them how pinworms are discovered. I haven't seen them biting their nails since. (PHEW!)

That story is hilarious! And gross! Glad you've broken the habit.
Are they under toe nails too? That would be a hard habit to break for me. Nothin like getting the kids to bed, and snuggling up in my comfy chair to spend some quiet time gnawing on my toe nails. Ahhh...bliss. :-)
I'm so glad my lovely experience had an improving effect on your nails! They are beautiful.
Eewww!!!
I am a nail biter too!
I didn't feel like I could include a pinworm comment on your Fish Park post so I am doing 2 comments today. I convinced Rebecca not to dig in our sand pit at the Reserve in Mississippi because of pinworms. Another reason was that the stray cats all used it for kitty litter. For some reason that didn't bother her as much. The good thing is that once I convinced Rebecca about pinworms she convinced the rest of my crew, and continually reminded them.
Ahh....thanks. I am way late in getting over here to read your cure, but it might be just the thing for my germophobe. On the other hand (heh heh), he has gnawed his nails all the way down to the quick, and is working on the fingers per se. :-(
I will see if your story works, though. Mike suggested rubbing the gnawer's fingers with loose tobacco (??)....
