Suppose you were making dinner - say, a pot of beans - and suddenly a tiny gnat starts buzzing around and before you know it, it has landed in your pot. You try to fish it out but it is quickly lost in the bubbling brew. Would you throw out the whole thing and start over?
Or would you just add a bit more pepper to help it blend in with the other small black specks?
Or would you just add a bit more pepper to help it blend in with the other small black specks?
Would you justify it because you eat far worse when you are camping?
And you think you read somewhere that gnats are a delicacy in some parts of the world.
Or, at the very least, it's just another natural protein source, and we can all use more protein in our diets.
Plus, we're in a recession and it would be almost criminal to waste so much food just over a tiny little gnat.
And, come to think of it, maybe the gnat didn't actually sink down into the beans. Maybe it quickly flew away and I you didn't notice.
Besides, these beans really did need more pepper.
(And does the fact that I ponder such PURELY hypothetical situations make you hesitant to eat at my house?)

Um...yeah, remind me to never eat at your house. (kidding)
I figure if it's something I'd still eat, I can serve it to others. Now if YOU (for some reason) chose to eat something different for dinner...that's another story.
I wouldn't waste it, consider the boiling (hypothetically) got rid of any germs or diseases the gnat may have carried and it was added protein. I love beans, so I am a little biased.
Of course I'd keep the beans. I'd maybe try to catch a few more gnats and throw them in there for extra flavoring. I let my kids eat off the floor, remember?
Once I was in the middle of making cinnamon rolls and as I was rolling out the dough, noticed a little bug in the dough... I sat and thought... I picked it out, added more cinnamon and rolled them up. I ate them, with cream cheese frosting of course, and tried not to think of the bug.
I'd serve the beans too.
Perhaps this would be a good time to admit I ate several spoonfuls of bugs just the other night. Think old cake mix, cake batter, brown specs that on closer inspection were weavel...
In this instance, I did not finish the cake and serve it to my family.
But then there was the time I dropped an entire casserole in the foyer of the church, scooped it back into the pan, and served it anyway...
So I'm going with, yes to the gnat infested beans.
And letting Domino's do all my catering.
Im with Jenny, find some more and throw them in for more protein. Of course, maybe I should be more hesitant to eat at both of your houses now, but considering i suck as a cook, well, I'll continue eating at your places. Which reminds me, when are we coming over to eat all of your food next?
Gnat? What gnat?
