Sometimes, I hate having a blog. It's just ONE MORE THING for my To-Do list. Obviously, it hasn't taken a very high priority.
The end of August is always crazy busy around here. Two birthdays, an anniversary, scads of Back-To-School activities, cramming in final summer fun . . . I took tons of pictures of it all, of course, but I'm not going to crash Blogger by uploading them all here. Instead, I'll just post a quick recap. Then I can FINALLY check off "update blog" from my To-Do list.

Seattle Sounders vs. New England Revolution! We are huge Sounders fans. Finally, a sport that I can get excited about and LOVE watching. We record all their matches to watch on TV, but it was so much better watching it live! (**Another hint to Santa: Season tickets!**) :-)
Happy Birthday Nathan! He turned 38 this year. To celebrate, we went to Seattle to eat at Turkish Delight, a little doner shop near Pike's Market. I won't even tell you how much that lunch set us back. :-{ But it was yummy! Afterwards, we stopped by the Rocky Mountain Fudge Company for some dessert - a plain caramel apple, a German Chocolate caramel apple, a Rocky Road caramel apple, and a chocolate-dipped Twinkie. Since I took August off of my no-sugar-eating, I sampled a few bites. I'm sorry, but that just has to be a violation of the Law of Health. A chocolate-dipped Twinkie!? I felt like we needed to repent after scarfing down that bad boy.

Happy 14th anniversary to us! We again spent the afternoon over in Seattle, eating dinner at one of our old favorites from when we went to school at UW.

Happy Birthday Micah! He's a whopping 11 years old now! As usual, he awoke to a house fully decorated in streamers (in the Sounder's blue & green!), and opened his presents. We had already given him our gift a few weeks ago - a custom skateboard (we gave it early so that he could enjoy it during summer break). He was very excited to get Wii Sports Resort and a new helmet. He spent the day hanging out with friends, playing Wii and having water balloon fights. That evening was Pack Meeting. He received his Webelos badge and Arrow of Light. Way to go, Micah!
We went camping with our friends, the Closes, at Fort Worden. It was a great weekend - beautiful weather, great campsite, yummy food (Nathan brought his new 3-burner camp stove). We've had a lot of fun camping trips this summer. But I especially enjoy the times that Nathan is able to come with us.

We did a similar camping trip with the Closes last year. Here is Adana with her best friend, Timmy, in our Burley - this year and last. Aren't they adorable!?
First day of school. We are doing part-time school again. Jared, Micah & Emma are all going for the first half of the day, then coming home after lunch to homeschool. And starting next week, Adana will be in preschool two mornings a week and at a friend's house another day. So I will have 10 hours each week of child-free time. Helloooooo gym! :-) [What? You think I should be spending that time cleaning house? Pshaw! Mopped floors are highly over-rated.]
Done! Caught up! To-Do list checked off!

Sounds like a great August. And I LOVE Turkish Delight!!! I used to work about a block away from Pike Place and that was my fav place to go for lunch. :)
Does Emma get to wear shoes to school? or is that a homeschool thing, backwoods :)
Heather~
Ha! I wondered if anyone would notice. No, I just forgot to take her Back-to-School picture before she went to school. So by the time I remembered, she'd already come home and taken off her shoes. I made her come back outside for a quick pic. :-)
But actually, now that you mention it, not having to wear shoes IS one of the perks of homeschooling!
Yeah! I have been looking forward to hear about your month! Happy birthday nate and Micah, and hope you had a wonderful anniversary!! your kids are getting soo big and i wish we lived closer!
I was thinking you were kindof kooky taking back to school pictures when you homeschool. Makes more sense now that I now they are "kindof" going to school now. :) 10 whole hours...and you choose to go to the gym? Wow...that is definitely not what I would be choosing to do with my time. I'm sure that doesn't surprise you one bit. :)
I hope you don't have having a blog for very long! I've missed reading your entertaining posts.
OK, I get it now. Kylie was editing my previous comment. I wrote "have having" instead of "hate having" so she wrote *hate to correct me. I thought she was sending you some kind of hate mail or something! I deleted it anyway!
