The best things in life are free

On Friday, I had the best massage of my life.

Now, that's saying something, because I've had a bunch of massages, and they've nearly all been good. (Except for that one in Turkey, laying naked in a glass-walled room, with a Turkish soap opera blaring on the TV, and she pulled out "the machine" . . . Shiver.)

A friend of mine, Ellen, is going to Massage School and she needed a guinea pig for her homework. It took me all of a nanosecond to volunteer. Are you kidding me!? A FREE massage? Sign me up!

I met her at her house, where she has turned part of her bedroom into her massage studio. It is very well done - a gas fire burning in one corner, soft shades of sage, lavendar and cream, gentle New Age music playing in the background.

I'll spare you the details of the next hour and a half - I don't want to make you too jealous. And yes, that was 1 1/2 hours!! An absolutely blissful, unrushed, ultra-soothing HOUR and a HALF. Completely free.

I'm thinking of setting up a MARATHON MASSAGE. I could get people to make donations - sponsor me - as I selflessly endure 26.2 hours of a Swedish massage. I figure that if the going rate for a good massage is about $1/minute, I would need to raise $1572 for my MARATHON MASSAGE.

I'll try to include a PayPal link in a future post for your donating convienence. Dig deep, my friends. It's for a good cause. You will be richly blessed.

Sounds like it's time for me to come and visit. Your friend could use some expert advice, from a former massage therapist, that I would be more than happy to provide. I'm just that kind of person. It's just easy to be me sometimes. :)

Hmmmm . . . it seems like I do, vaguely, remember something about you being a massage therapist. Funny, though. I don't remember receiving any FREE massages.

Don't worry. You can come take part in my MARATHON MASSAGE. As a masseuse, of course. The hard work of actually receiving the massage must fall on my shouldars (and back and legs and arms . . .)

I guess that means you are no longer training for a half-marathon with me?? I feel rejected.

I do, very much, appreciate your support of my effort, though. Perhaps I can reciprocate - let me come up with something creative....

Oh my GOD do I love massages. I'm always trying to coerce my 7 year old to "give Mommy a backrub". She's like - squeeze, squeeze -'can i be done now?

I finally got myself to get a pedicure, I don't know if I could handle a full body massage...and I'd definitely run the other way if I had to be naked in a glass room! But Ellen's sounds nice, maybe she has a half hour slot so I could ease myself into the idea...

I didn't even know that the words "free" and "massage" even go together. I figured you didn't need a massage because you are always so calm and tranquil.
