A Not-About-the-Weather post

No, I'm not going to post pictures of yet another snowy day, yet another white-covered deck & lawn. I'm not going to blog about the unjustice of having a couple of nice, sunny days - where the daffodil buds were beginning to peek out of the dirt and the robins were chirping away in the yard - a tantalizing taste of spring, only to be followed by more snow, more slush, more frigid temps.

Rather, I'm going to blog about LIES. Cold, vicious lies that I'm sure each and every one of you have probably heard many times, probably from people that you love and trust. In fact, I'm talking about LIES that perhaps you have told yourself. (I have to admit, I've told a few of these myself.) Do they ring a bell:

~ It's not about the weather; it's about your attitude.

~ You can live anywhere, as long as you have friends and loved ones nearby.

~ Those cold, drizzly days are just perfect for snuggling up with a cup of cocoa and a good book.

~ There is nothing more beautiful than the silent storm of a snowy day.

Hogwash! Malarkey! Bull $#*!

I leave you with this picture of my backyard. Excuse me if I don't readily respond to your emails or phone calls . . . I'll be busy basking in the glow of my delusion. Heck, as long as we're all liers, I might as well make mine a good one.

My favorite lie is, "It's not the heat, it's the humidity", like 110 is sweater-weather, as long as you live in the desert.

Oh yeah, I get that all the time from my parents in St. George. It will be 115 degrees, but they chant, "Yes, but it's DRY HEAT." Sorry, but my oven is dry heat too, and it can still cook a turkey!

At least this time they didn't close school! I don't mind it so much when it doesn't stick to the roads.

"It's not about the weather; it's about your attitude."

-- No, it's the weather. I am sure of that.

"You can live anywhere, as long as you have friends and loved ones nearby."

-- Wrong. Indiana, for example, is completely intolerable, no matter what. And I already told my husband there is NO WAY I am moving to China.

"Those cold, drizzly days are just perfect for snuggling up with a cup of cocoa and a good book."

-- No. They are perfect for sleeping, assuming that the children did not decide to get up at 6:00 for the first time in two years. I DO prefer not-ice-cold drizzle to thunderstorms and tornados, though.

"There is nothing more beautiful than the silent storm of a snowy day."

-- I actually kind of agree with this one. I like snowstorms at night; I go out and shovel, and it is so nice and quiet, and not too cold. Daytime snowstorms around here mean that several dozen people invite themselves into my backyard for sledding (without asking, or even saying hello). That's not so quiet.

"I just want to feel some sunshine,
I just want to find some place to be alone."

It has been a tough winter all over this year, I think. Yesterday was 60 and blissful, today is 46 with gale-force winds, next week is snow again. :-(
