Chilly Hilly by Garrett Gibbons

I know that pretty much everyone on Bainbridge Island has probably already seen this great video, but I thought I'd post it for you poor souls who aren't blessed to live on an island as great as ours. This is footage of our annual Chilly Hilly bike race, which just took place last month. The film was shot and put together by Garrett Gibbons, a great local guy (also in our ward at church). He is amazingly talented - a former BYU Ballroom dancer, photographer, dance teacher . . .

And by the way, the next time I mention that I went for a run, these are the roads that I'm running on. Oh yeah, I live on a hilly little island. :-)

That was so fun to watch...and I had so many comments run through my mind while I did.

I'll spare you most of them, but I can't let it go...were those poor girls hoping to sell a lot of baked goods to the cyclists? So many people, so little pockets of change!

Beautiful island! Love that the trees are blooming already. We still have weeks to go for any of that.

And which racer were you? ;)

Arlyn~ Are you kidding me!? I'm a runner, NOT a biker. It's amazing what different muscles the two activities use.

And I thought the same thing about those girls and their bake sale. But this is such a traditional community event that I'm sure they had some customers. The whole town turns out to watch the bikers.

OR curse them for those of us who live on the narrow windy road parts of the Island. They are arrogant road hogs!
Curse the chilly hillers!

How many get hit by cars each year? Some of the cars looked like they got pretty close.

I sure think that your island is pretty.

Thanks for posting this! I heard Garrett talking about making it, but hadn't seen it yet. I love the shot of the "Hill" sign with the bikers going up the huge hill in the background. I know exactly where that is and I would NEVER try to run it! We do live on a very hilly island. Dr. K. told me to avoid hills on my runs for a while...yeah, right!
