Oh, the Injustice!

Can you have St. Patrick's Day without a Shamrock Shake?! Isn't that sort of the whole point of this silly holiday? St. Patrick's Day = Shamrock Shakes = Spring Is Coming! It's all part of the natural order of things.

So you'll understand my pain, my angst, my distraughtedness when I pulled into our local McD's (with my very excited kids in tow) to order our annual SHAMROCK SHAKES, only to be told, "We're sorry, but our ice cream machine is down today."

Huh!? Is that even legal? Shouldn't there be some sort of government sanctions against a McDonalds that allows their ice cream machine to be broken on Shamrock Shake day? Argh!

So, of course there was only one thing to do. We drove to the next town over to buy our Shamrock Shakes at their McDonalds. Guess what? They were OUT.

We hung our heads for a moment of sadness, then backed away from the drive-thru window and dejectedly made our way back home. I just hope that spring will still come, even though we haven't satisfied our end of the ritualistic agreement. Blame McDonald's if we end up with a cold, gray spring.

And, as a side note, I don't want anyone ever again to accuse me of being anti-holiday or someone who disregards tradition. Truth be told, I am not even a huge fan of Shamrock Shakes, but they're our St. Patrick's Day tradition. Similarly, I'll be eating turkey on Thanksgiving (blech), I'll put a stupid tree in my living room on Christmas (shudder), and I'll light off fireworks on the 4th of July (hate them!). Why!?

In the wise words of Tevye: TRADITION!!

You've lived among the lefties too long if you call for government to control Shamrock Shakes. Be an independent entrepreneur and make your own. I'll see if they have them here in paradise.

Please tell me that you were going to devour the sugar overload?

Awesome--tradition is great! We ate Corned Beef and Cabbage a tradition since we've been married, and my kids will have to learn to love it. A very cheap meal too!

You Rock!! I am so proud that you drove around looking for Shamrock Shakes. I am also proud that you eat turkey, put up a tree, and occasionally give your kids an Easter basket :)
I do have a recipe for the shamrock shakes I can send you (from Top Secret Recipes) if you are really serious.

We just did the corned beef and cabbage with some Irish soda bread. I would have made mint green brownies, but I was too tired/lazy.

Yeah, that Jessica is a real slug, isn't she? And I totally feel your pain. I only want a McDonald's shake maybe three times a year, and I swear, every time I drive up to order one, their machine is down. I think McDonald's is an evil empire.

Ok...I think that McD's skipped tradition this year because our McD's were all "down" too!! LIES!! Lies, I tell ya!!
