so your heart won't palpitate.
Just don't be late!
Do the Puyallup!
(If you aren't from Western Washington and you've never heard this advertisement, then this probably makes no sense to you. If, however, you are from Washington - you will now have that little jingle running through your brain ALL DAY. Sorry.)
Yesterday, we made our annual trek down to the little town of Puyallup, WA (pronounced PEW-al-up) for the best gosh darn fair in the state. Heck, this fair is so awesome that they even have the website http://www.thefair.com/.
The Puyallup Fair has been a Russell family tradition since, well, since we have been a family. We never miss the fair. Sometimes (like this year) I have to ask myself WHY am I willing to drive 2 hours each way to pay a small fortune to eat crappy fair food and watch my kids ride on rickety fair rides??
But each year I go back. I just can't help myself. I eat a corn dog (has to be a Krusty Pup), a Jumbo bag of cotton candy (yes, I've finally learned to share), Nathan gets the BBQ chicken or ribs, Jared gets an Earthquake burger . . . and that's just for starters. We eat until we're sick (which doesn't take long considering it's greasy fair food), all the while roaming in amongst the horse/cow/sheep stalls, kiddie rides, hot tub venders, and trinket salespeople.
I couldn't help but think, as I watched the chain-smokin'-multi-tattooed-Vote-For-Pedro people waiting in line for the Tilt-a-Whirl, "Most of these people are probably registered to vote. These are the people who are deciding the fate of our country."
But then, they were probably looking at me stuffing a buttery glob of elephant ear in my mouth, standing in line at the Bumper Cars, and thinking the same thing.
Adana & Emma on the helicopter ride. How many times can you enthusiastically wave and yell "Woo Hoo!" as they slowly spin around and around and around? Nathan doesn't even try to fake interest, so it falls to the mom to show some excitement. "Woo Hoo! Woo Hoo. woo hoo. woo hoo . . ."
Emma & I rode the ferris wheel. I used to love it. But this time I got a little motion sick. Dang, if I can't handle the ferris wheel than I really must be getting old.
Oh yes. Yet another kiddie ride. This was their last one of the day. Even they are looking a little tired of the Woo Hoo factor.
A famous Krusty Pup, eaten creatively by Adana. Who says you have to eat it from the top down?

I used to spend my summers in Puyallup. I have an aunt (and uncle and 4 cousins) who lives there! AWESOME little city, and so VERY VERY green! I never did go to the fair though... bummer. Glad you had fun!
Ok Brooke. You have finally succeeded in making me feel a twinge of homesickness. Down here in cowboy country our fair is, shall we say, less impressive. Looks like the sun shone for you too!!
I love the fair. Ours was back in July and I miss the fried (insert weird food here) already...
Aw, I remember taking Ian there when he was two years old! He had such a good time! I have a ton of photos around here, somewhere.
Now that we live out in the sticks, we are just a stone's throw from the "real" NJ State Fair (I think it's just the County Fair, but it is rumored to be the best in the state). The boys are always at their grandparents' that week.
