I hope this inspires you to bake and share with your friends. Any friends. If you live on Bainbridge Island, I'd be happy to take some off your hands.
1 cup Crisco (get the cubes; they're way easier)
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup sour milk (1/2 T. lemon juice + milk to make 1/2 cup)
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Mix Crisco, brown sugar and eggs until creamy. Add sour milk and dry ingredients (alternating until they're mixed in). Chill 1 hour or overnight. Roll into small balls (golf ball) and place on ungreased cookie sheet. I use a muffin scooper. Flatten slightly with a flour-dipped glass. Bake at 400 for 8-10 minutes. COOL COMPLETELY!
Frosting
2 egg whites
1 1/2 tsp. water
Beat until stiff.
Add:
2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
Frost cookies smoothly and let set (takes a few hours). Paint with food coloring.

Thanks for the recipe post! When I saw your picture I wanted to make them.
I'm surprised you didn't already have it. I got it from my mom, whom I thought got it from Gma Lott. I always thought it was an old family recipe.
